Those questions changed my life.

For years, I studied what creates true success with horses. The prevailing belief is that success comes from better methods or more advanced techniques. But what is success if the horse is left mentally shut down, physically depleted, angry, or simply finished with the human leading it?

I have witnessed this even under the banner of "natural horsemanship." If we method and technique a horse into numbness or submission, can we honestly call that success? Can we call it natural?

The most natural thing we can do for our equine partner is learn how to guide, teach, and train by studying not only the horse, but also the wisdom of the One who designed the horse.

When we do this well, we help protect the horse's mental and physical health and may contribute to a longer, more successful, healthier working life. Our horses become more willing. They show up with a good attitude, ready to work alongside the master, teacher, friend they have learned to trust. They do not merely respond because they have been trained to obey. They respond because a relationship has been built through trustworthy leadership, understanding, and love.

I discovered that the horse is far more than an animal to train, ride, or dominate.

The horse is a window through which we glimpse the wisdom of the Master Designer.

And when we begin to see the horse as the Master Designer sees the horse, we begin to see ourselves as the Master Designer sees us.

That changes everything.

It changes how we communicate.

How we lead.

How we build trust.

How we correct.

How we serve.

How we pursue excellence.

Most importantly, it transforms our relationship with both our horse and our Creator.
